What to Expect

Updated: Aug 23, 2023

Dues and Fees

Yearly dues are around $1200. It can range based off of which tournaments we participate in and events that we hold throughout the year.

Dues include: payments for referees, NCCVL dues, tournament entry fees and hotel fees when necessary.

Dues do not include: gas for traveling, airline ticket for nationals or food while traveling.

*Girls are expected to pay dues each quarter. If there are ever extenuating circumstances the board is always willing to work with a player.

Preseason

Preseason begins in early October with 2-4 open gym sessions, followed by two tryout dates early to mid-October. Practices will begin shortly after the final cuts are made and the 2 teams have been formed.

Preseason practices are typically focused on conditioning, volleyball fundamental skills, and building team chemistry. There are two practices during the week with one practice on the weekend, usually late Sunday afternoon. Additional conditioning is always highly encouraged.

This season we are trying to get one or two preseason tournaments scheduled, but there will be more information about those tournaments as we get closer to the start of Fall Quarter in September.

Practices

Practices will start promptly after tryouts on October 24th to begin preparing for the start of season competition, in January. We continue practicing until we leave for nationals in mid-April. There are roughly 2-3 practices a week, depending on our travel schedule.

Fall Quarter this year, our Gold Team will practice on Tuesdays from 8-10pm and our Green Team will practice on Thursdays from 8-10pm both in the North Gym of the Recreation Center. There will also be a joint practice on Fridays from 2-4pm and then Sunday practices from 1-5pm, both of which will be held in the Main Gym of the Recreation Center.

We roster two teams that practice separately; however, on Sundays and Fridays, scrimmages will most likely be held, in which case both teams will coordinate a time during our practice block that would work best for a scrimmage.

Tournaments

Excluding the preseason tournaments we participate in, all other competition takes place between the months of January and April. Both teams travel to Northern California to compete, anywhere from San Jose to Sacramento. We also plan to compete in a Las Vegas tournament in March, and Nationals in April.

Our secretary coordinates transportation and plans carpools for both teams whenever we travel for competitions. At tournaments, we usually try to stay with teammate's families in order to cut down on travel expenses. The only tournaments where our girls will stay in a hotel is the Las Vegas tournament and Nationals.

On average, we are traveling every other weekend during season, competing against the other teams in our league and playing in tournaments to help us get to Nationals. We try to give each team at least one home game each season, but sometimes that doesn't always work out. Most weekends we will be playing both days, so it is important that our girls plan accordingly for any school work they may have.
